How to download your photos from Google Drive

Lost, damaged or not downloaded digital files policy

Photos/video are stored in Google Drive by Lighthouse Studios for minimum 7 days.  This is because the space in Google Drive is needed to be able to deliver other clients files to them and allows us to manage our work flows.  Normally they are online longer, however if you haven’t downloaded them in this time and we have deleted them we will need to take them out of storage (in a separate hard drive on a separate computer) and re-upload them, which could take anywhere up to 48 hours.  We normally charge a $55 retrieval fee for this process and can send you an invoice.

USB/Thumb Drive Delivery of digital files

Due to the wonders of technology, it is not necessary to deliver files on a USB drive anymore.  Digital delivery (i.e. downloads for you) reduces time, cost, as well as waste.  We no longer factor in the price of a USB into the pricing of any Lighthouse Studios job.  If a USB drive is something that you would like, the charge is $20, sent via registered post via Australia Post.  Please contact Cyrus to organise an invoice.

If you follow the following steps you should be able to download your Lighthouse Photography Photos and Video from Google Drive.

For Laptop/Computer

Open up the download link you have received, on your computer.  It should open in an internet browser window and look a little bit like this:

Once you’re in there, right click on the last part of the breadcrumb (which is probably your name or organisations name).

In the pop-up menu, go down and click on “Download”.

Your internet browser will then download the photos to your normal Downloads location.  If you are unsure where this is you can try using the search function on your computer for the folder called “Downloads” or use the search function on your computer to find the name of the folder that you have just downloaded (whatever Cyrus has named the file).

Often the file you are downloading is displayed on the bottom of the screen.  You can click on this once it’s finished downloading to open the file.

The file will be a “.zip” file, which means it needs to be extracted/un-zipped for you to be able to view/use the photos.  Sometimes this happens automatically upon download and sometimes it happens automatically when you double click on the file.  If not, if you right click on the file, you can select extract or unzip.  Most computers these days have extraction software built in.

If it doesn’t work on your browser, try a different browser.

Mobile – To download individual photos to your phone

(it is not recommended to download all your photos to your phone as they are large files and will take up a lot of room).  If you have received print/full res/high resolution photos it may take a while to download over a normal mobile internet connection (25mb average file size).
